Memphis band Lucero played the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia on Wednesday, September 30 and brought their signature blend of blue-collar alternative country rock. Opening act Joelton Mayfield, of Nashville, set the stage with an understated yet soulful set before Lucero stepped into the spotlight.
Playing a generous number of fan favorites like “Tears Don’t Matter Much,” “Nights Like These,” “On My Way Downtown,” and “Nobody’s Darlings,” frontman Ben Nichols and the rest of the Lucero crew treated the packed house to an intimate yet energetic set. The band leaned effortlessly into the room’s energy – taking song requests, sharing whiskey shots with the crowd, and eventually capping the night off with an encore of sad songs and goodbyes.
